What is the FSC?
It stands for the Forest Stewardship Council (U.S.) , a group of foresters, environmentalists, loggers and others who have pioneered the sustainable logging movement. They have created the FSC Standards, Principles and Criteria in order to clearly define what constitutes sustainably-harvested lumber.
The FSC certification means that loggers or suppliers ensure that their wood products come from land where the ecology of the forest eco-system has been carefully protected, by agreeing to and abiding by FSC Principles. Here is a link to their international site, which operates in at least 40 countries worldwide!

Recently, I approached a local lumber broker who I've known about for a few years to see what was available for FSC-certified, sustainably harvested woods.
I have worked with some of their lumber before, so I knew the wood they supplied was among the best to be had! We have a mutual friend, so it was easy for us to meet in person and talk about what was available. They introduced me to their current products, inventory and warehouse as well as the direction they wish to take their business.
